AYWC provides human/social service and/or youth work internship placements to international university students with the goal of encouraging and enabling more students to gain practical experience in the United States. AYWC’s internship program places qualified participants in 3-12 month internships with U.S. human/social service host companies and provides an individualized program timeframe, in-country orientation, and personalized service to each training site agency.

AYWC also offers sponsorship to students who have found their own social work internships.Applicants must be current students or recent graduates affiliated with an accredited university. The program fee ranges from $500-$1,400 per participant depending on the length of the internship.

This program is administered under the auspices of the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program of the U.S. Department of State. Please note that new U.S. Department of State regulations for the J-1 Visa Trainee and Intern Categories will be in effect as of July 19, 2007, that revise significantly the regulations that previously governed this program.
