Youth Support Workers, Residential Case Worker, Residential Youth Counselor, Residential Direct Care Worker, Child Case Manager
Description:There are many opportunities working in one of several residential schools for adolescents who are experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties. Some of these individuals have experienced significant abuse or neglect and many have psychiatric illnesses which prevent them from being successful in the main stream school system. Some individuals have been diverted to these schools from the youth criminal justice system. Successful candidates must prove to be excellent role models and assist the students in their academic and living environments. Duties include data collection, supervision and safety, liaising with family members, assisting with all chores to keep residences and classrooms safe and clean. Successful candidates should be prepared to be trained in safe techniques for the implementation of physical interventions, such as escorts. Students gain access to sporting and adventure activities through appropriate behavior.
Qualifications:The successful candidates will be required to hold a degree or post secondary certificate in psychology, social work, youth work or similar. At least one year experience in the field of social services, human services or other employment or voluntary work with children with disabilities or mental health issues. Due to the active nature of the position, applicants must maintain a level of fitness that enables them to intervene with children who may run or require physical interventions that prevent them from harm. Must have a drivers license by the time the applicant arrives in the USA. Will be required to obtain a state driver’s license on arrival. These positions are entry level, are not managerial or clinical positions and are not recommended for applicants with prior managerial experience or higher degrees.
Duties to include but not limited to:
- Supervise students in their home or residential floor.
- Attend Individual Educational Planning meetings to advocate for students’ needs and preferences.
- Assist students in all aspects of skill building, teaching opportunities, social development.
- Provide opportunities for students to participate in their community including, religious services, leisure activities, volunteer activities, shopping.
- Model positive behavior, good manners, appropriate dress, social interactions, appropriate language.
- Assist students to maintain and develop relationships with family and friends as appropriate.
- Attend medical appointments and advocate for students during visit, assist with filling of prescriptions and other follow-up as necessary.
- Observe and report changes in health status.
- Maintain First Aid, CPR and other required trainings, attend additional trainings as requested by supervisor.
- Provide assistance and teaching in all aspects of meal planning, shopping, cooking as needed.
- Provide assistance and teaching in all aspects of housekeeping, including cleaning, dishwashing, laundry, gardening as needed.
- Facilitate appropriate boundaries with students.
- Provide behavioral support and intervention as written in the behavior treatment plan, including physical intervention as required.
- Document, maintain and review confidential records of students.
- Complete other documentation as required, including shift notes, monthly progress notes and incident reports.
- Attend weekly or monthly staff meetings as required.
- Provide transportation to students to attend medical appointments and recreational activities.
- Maintain accountability for student’s funds.
- Communicate with students using their primary language, English, Spanish, American Sign Language or other adaptive communication methods.
Teaching Assistants, Classroom Assistant, Teacher’s Aide
Description:Working in schools for adolescents with acquired brain injuries and other neurological deficits. The teaching assistant will work in a classroom or residential unit with students under the direction of the special education teacher or program manager. They will provide assistance with lesson planning, behavioral management, supervision of transition times, running educational therapeutic groups, safety and supervision and other duties as assigned.
Students either live on the residential floor of the main school, or in one of the nearby community residences, walking distance from the school. Strong candidates may be promoted to the position of case manager where they coordinate services for one or two students.
Qualifications:The successful candidates will be required to hold a degree or post secondary certificate in psychology, social work, youth work or similar. At least one year experience in the field of social services, human services or other employment or voluntary work with children with disabilities or mental health issues. Must have a international driver’s license by the time the applicant arrives in the USA. You Will be required to obtain a state driver’s license on arrival.

Residential Support Specialists (Developmental Disabilities)
Description:Successful candidates will provide support to individuals with developmental disabilities in community group living situations. Support will include assisting individuals to manage their health care, providing advocacy at medical appointments, behavior management, housekeeping, shopping, data collection, developing community activities, providing transportation, assisting with skill building, supervising hygiene, budgeting, family liaison, report writing and much more. Generally most individuals manage a house with 2-4 other disabled individuals. Full training is provided. Individuals may have different needs depending on the placement.
Qualifications:The successful candidates will be required to hold a degree or post secondary certificate in psychology, social work, youth work or similar. At least one year experience in the field of social services, human services or other employment or voluntary work with children with disabilities or mental health issues. Successful candidates will need to have some experience working with people with developmental disabilities, psychiatric disabilities or similar. You will be required to have a driving license and qualify for a state license after three months.

Autism Case Specialists
Description:This is an amazing opportunity to work with students who are a part of a residential school for children and adolescents with autism and similar learning disorders. The specialist will learn and apply the techniques of Applied Behavioral Analysis. Responsible for teaching students functional living skills, socialization skills, recreational and leisure skills and functional communication skills. Populations served are intensely physically challenging and may exhibit life threatening aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior. Support Specialists are expected to implement highly technical clinical and teaching programs following applied behavioral analysis techniques.
Qualifications:The successful candidates will be required to hold a degree or post secondary certificate in psychology, social work, youth work or similar. At least one year experience in the field of social services, human services or other employment or voluntary work with children with disabilities or mental health issues. Some experience working with the autistic population or similar is preferred. Due to the active nature of the position, applicants must maintain a level of fitness that enables them to intervene with children who may run or require physical interventions that prevent them from harm.
Duties to include but not limited to:
- Plan and supervise preparation of meals according to arranged menu
- Develop plans for each student’s activities of daily living
- Following medical advice and keeping all medical records current and accurate
- Coordinating leisure and social activities to promote and encourage social skills.
- Support specialists will implement Behavior Support Plans as written
- Follow data-taking procedures
- assist in the development of IEP goals and objectives, implementing goals and objectives.
Vocational Case Specialists, Job Coach, Vocational Counselor, Day Counselor, Employment Case Worker.
Description:Successful candidates will be supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and other secondary disabilities in their quest to find and maintain meaningful employment. The positions are based in sheltered workshops where contracts are carried out. Contracts may involve mailings, packing or assembly work. Other individuals are supported in community placements. Duties may involve teaching work skills or social skills, supervising individuals for safety, behavioral interventions, personal intimate care, recording work done, writing progress reports, liaising with community employers and other service providers. There are four day support sites with individuals with a wide range of abilities.
Qualifications:The successful candidates will be required to hold a degree or post secondary certificate in psychology, social work, youth work or similar. At least one year experience in the field of social services, human services or other employment or voluntary work with children with disabilities or mental health issues. Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, psychiatric disabilities or similar is preferred. You will be required to have a state driving license after three months.
Duties to include but not limited to:
- Implement clinical and vocational training of employees.
- Attend Individual Educational Planning meetings to advocate for students’ needs and preferences.
- Supervise employees at their worksite, assuring employees complete all assigned tasks.
- Provide assistance and teaching in all aspects of keeping the workplace clean, tidy and safe.
- Ensure employees are treated with respect and dignity reflecting their place as valued members of the community.
- Act as liaison between employee, worksite and residential providers.
- Attend and run therapeutic group or individual counseling sessions as designated by the clinical social worker.
- Assist employees in all aspects of skill building, teaching opportunities, and social development.
- Physically assist employees in and out of wheelchairs as required, providing physical ADL care as necessary.
- Model positive behavior, good manners, appropriate dress, social interactions, appropriate language.
- Provide behavioral support and intervention as written in the behavior treatment plan, including physical intervention as required.
- Administer medications within legal guidelines.
